Accounting Using QuickBooks Description: Did you know that QuickBooks has almost 80 percent of the market for small business accounting software? That means you are likely a user of QuickBooks or a soon-to-be user. The software is a powerful tool that can support almost any size business. But, it is only software. QuickBooks is only useful if the end user knows how to run, navigate, and use the software. Plus, it is accounting software. Did you go into business with a goal of becoming an accountant? Well, stress no more! While we can't cover everything about QuickBooks in a 2-hour presentation, we will walk through the fundamental procedures you must know to use QuickBooks effectively:
For this presentation we'll be using a sample computer consulting company we "created" for demonstration purposes. There will be no PowerPoint slides! You'll see the real QuickBooks in action. There will be a Q&A period, so come armed with your questions. Bring them on 3 × 5 index cards, and turn them in before the start of the presentation. We will also have index cards so you can write down additional questions as they arise for the Q&A session. Speakers: Jina Etienne, a CPA and a Certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor, has been using QuickBooks in her practice and for her clients since 1994. She has facilitated QuickBooks training seminars and now offers one-on-one hands-on training for clients. Jina has also taught accounting as an adjunct professor at American University, where she earned an M.S. in taxation in 1993 and a B.S.B.A. in accounting in 1989. Jina Etienne, with more than 15 years of public accounting experience. began her career with Deloitte & Touche, one of the "Big Eight" accounting firms. Her focus there was on tax planning and compliance for corporations, partnerships, and S corporations ranging from government contractors and vending companies to hospitality and retail firms. When she left Deloitte & Touche to start Etienne & Associates, LLC, her focus shifted to the needs of small- and medium-sized businesses. With her own practice, Jina Etienne provides a wide range of accounting services for businesses and individuals, including tax planning and preparation, and business consulting. Her client base is diverse, including retail and service-based businesses as well as consultants and contractors. For individuals, her services generally include tax return preparation and tax planning. She also does tax research and representation before the IRS. Rosa Hernandez, of BookkeepingWorks, LLC, is a Certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor and Jina Etienne's newest business partner.
