Speaker: Larry Lavely, business consultant and SCORE counselor, presents this popular seminar several times a year for fee-paying clients. He has experience in proposal preparation and federal sector marketing for a major consulting company. Larry's business consultancy is in proposal preparation.

SCORE is a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). A national nonprofit organization, SCORE has over 11,500 volunteer members in 389 chapters across the United States. It is dedicated to providing help without charge to men and women starting small businesses and to those already in business.

Members of SCORE DC, the local chapter of SCORE, are working and retired executives and business owners who donate time and expertise to counsel men and women planning business startups or managing existing small businesses. SCORE DC volunteers provide individual counseling, workshops, team visits to business sites, and access to a Business Information Center, all free except for a small fee for workshops held at the offices of SCORE DC.

Teams from SCORE DC provide counseling designed to assist business owners and managers to--

  • Increase business value by growing sales, earnings, and cashflow 
  • Identify and solve problems 
  • Recognize business opportunities 
  • Implement change and add new systems 
  • Develop business plans

Location: One-half block south of the Cineplex Odeon Uptown movie theatre on Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. (There are many restaurants suitable for pre- or post-meeting gathering/networking/refreshment in the block north of the library.) 

Parking: Very small lot, off Macomb St., to left of library. 

Metrorail--Cleveland Park Station on the Red Line (on Connecticut Avenue, just 1.5 blocks north of meeting site

Several times a year a smaller group (usually about 8 to 12) goes to Nanny O'Brien's (directly across the street from the library at 3319 Connecticut Avenue, NW, 202-686-9189, open 2 pm Saturday to 2 am Sunday) or another local establishment for continued conversation, networking, and refreshment following the meeting. (Participants pay for their own beverages and food.)
